SUBJECT:
Interference with other 2.4 GHz wireless devices
QUESTION:
The problem is that since I plugged in the NDC
wireless AP, I have been unable to use my Casi 2.4 Ghz
cordless phone and also my 2.4 Ghz X10 Video Sender devices.
The X10 video sender gets horrible interferance from the
wireless AP which is downstairs. I unplug the wireless
AP and everything is ok, plug it, Chaos, unplug, ok, plug
it, problem.
ANSWER:
Our current wireless LAN products and some other wireless
consumer digital appliances use the same RF frequency
(2.4 GHz). Therefore, the interference between them is
unavoidable.
Some of the wireless consumer digital appliances use
only a little bandwidth within the FCC ISM band range,
i.e. 2.4-2.483 GHz. They can work at the same time by
using different bands. The wireless LAN products with
the DSSS technology use all bandwidth from 2.4 to 2.483
GHz. So, it will interfere with another wireless device
using some bandwidth within the FCC ISM 2.4GHz band
range.
p.s.
Wireless LAN's are billed on the basis of installed equipment
cost, once in place there are no charges for use of the
network. The network communications take place in a part
of the radio spectrum that is designated as "license
free". In this band, 2.4-2.483 GHz, users can
operate without a license so long as they use equipment
that has been type approved for use in the license free
bands.
