SUBJECT:
Why may the problem on my PC be resolved by reinstalling
the Windows NT4.0?
QUESTION:
For Dell PCs with the NT4 SP4:
We don't know what Dell puts in the installation but we
cannot make the
card works in th PC. (It works and then signal quality
falls to zero...).
When we install an new NT 4 then it works. The problem
is we cannot
reinstall our customer PCs they have data, appilcations
and so on...
ANSWER:
If a problem can be resolved by re-installing the NT4,
it is
possible that the problem is resulted from installing
the network
software components after installing the Service Pack.
If you install the network software components after installing
the Service Pack, the system will re-copy some source
files about
the network system from the Windows NT CDROM, and then
some new
new network files installed by the Service Pack will be
covered by
those re-copied old files, then the problem happens. To
resolve this
problem, just install the Service Pack again, this is
the standard
resolving method suggested by the Microsoft authenticated
education
training center. (you don't have to re-install the NT4)
