SUBJECT:
How to configure the NWH6110 bridges without DHCP server
in the network?
QUESTION:
There is no DHCP server in my network, I connected the
NWH6110 bridges into my hub, but I cannot configure it
using WMS, what should I do?
ANSWER:
Because there is no DHCP server in your network, we suggest
that the you connect the NWH6110 bridge with the PC directly
by using cross-over UTP cable and configures its IP setting
before place it in you network.
When there is no DHCP server in the network, the NWH6110
will automatically assign an IP address of 169.254.x.x
with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. A Windows OS PC, which
is originally configured as a DHCP client, will follow
the same algorithm to assign itself an Auto-IP address
in the same subnet.
The procedures is as follows:
1. Use cross-over UTP cable to connect theNWH6110 bridge
to your PC directly.
2. Change the IP setting of your network adapter to “Obtain
an IP address automatically” as a DHCP client.
3. Make sure the IP address of your PC/network adapter
is Auto-IP address, 169.254.x.x, with the following steps:
- In Windows 98/ME system
Step 1. Click Start/Run, type "winipcfg", and
click <OK>. The IP Configuration dialog box will
open.
Step 2. Select the network adapter you use to connect
to the Bridge or Ethernet work. Click <Release>.
Step 3. Click <Renew> to retrieve a new IP address,
subnet mask, and default gateway address. Click <OK>
to save the changes and exit the program.
- In Windows NT 4.0 system
Step 1. Click Start/Programs/Command Prompt. Type "ipconfig
/release" and press Enter key.
Step 2. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter
key to retrieve a new IP address, subnet mask, and default
gateway address.
Step 3. Type "Exit".
- In Windows 2000/XP system
Step 1. Click Start/Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt.
Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter key.
Step 2. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter
key to retrieve a new IP address, subnet mask, and default
gateway address.
Step 3. Type "Exit".
4. Open WMS and click Auto-Discovery, then you should
discover the NWH6110 successfully. If you still cannot
discover it, please reset the NWH6110 by pressing the
Reset Button on the back of the NWH6110 over 5 seconds
and try again.
5. Configure the IP address of NWH6110 and other wireless
settings, such as SSID, Channel, Bridge Mode and so on.
6. Repeat the same steps to configure other NWH6110 bridges.
7. Change the IP address of your PC and NWH6110 bridges
with the same subnet.
