SUBJECT:

The methods to configure the AP

ANSWER:

The two methods to configure the AP are as follows:

You can use one of the following two methods to setup
(configure) the AP:

[Note] To give the IP addresses and the subnet mask
to the APs, you must use the AP COMFig which
will be mentioned on the following method #1.

1. Use the AP COMFig program & a RS-232 null-modem cable:

- buy a null-modem cable or follow the instruction in
the manual of the AP to make one by yourself.
- connect one end of the null-modem cable to a serial
port of a computer running Windows 9x/NT and
connect the other end of the null-modem cable to
the 9-pin serial port of the AP.
- install the Network Management System software
package into the computer (it is NOT necessary to
install a NDC card), then you will find a
program named 'AP COMFig' in the 'NDC AP'
program group. Run it, follow the on-screen instructions
to choose a correct COM (serial) port, power on or reset
the AP, when the message on the AP COMFig's first tab
shows 'Connected', then you may switch to the 2nd tab
and follow the instruction in the manual of the AP to
know how to use this program and configure the AP in
detail.

2. Use the APMS (AP Management System) program:

note: use this method after your AP has been given a set
of correct IP address and subnet mask by using the
AP COMFig program mentioned on the above
paragraph.

(a). use a wired (ethernet) computer:
- power on the AP and connect the AP to your ethernet
LAN via a standard UTP or Coaxial RG-58 cable.
- install the Network Management System software
package into a computer which has run Windows
9x/NT and connected to your ethernet LAN via
an ethernet LAN card bound with the TCP/IP protocol
(of course it must be set to be with a set of correct IP
address and subnet mask). Then you will find a program
named AP Management System in the 'NDC AP'
program group. Run it and follow the instruction in the
manual of the AP to know how to use this program and
configure the AP in detail.

(b). use a wireless (NDC) computer:
- power on the AP and attach the antenna to it.
- install the Network Management System software
package into a computer which has run Windows
9x/NT and connected to the AP via a NDC
LAN card bound with TCP/IP protocol(of course it
must be set to be with a set of correct IP address and
subnet mask). Then you will find a program named
AP Management System in the 'NDC AP'
program group. Run it and follow the instruction in
the manual of the AP to know how to use this
program and configure the AP in detail.
