SUBJECT:
The adapter cannot be detected under the Windows 98
QUESTION:
I have tried many times, but the NDC PCMCIA adapter
still
cannot be detected by the Windows 98.
ANSWER:
1. Go to "My Computer" -> "Control
Panel" -> "System" -> "Device
Manager".
2. Try to find out the "Other Devices" entry
with a question mark.
3. If you find the "Other Devices" entry, double
click it. If you find a
"Unknown" device or a "Wireless LAN PC
Card-802.11" item with an
exclamation mark, remove it and restart the Windows system.
4. If you cannot find it, please try to find out the
"Network Adapters"
entry. Under it, if you find a "NDC PC Card"
with an exclamation
mark, remove it and restart the Windows system.
5. Please also remove the "NDC PC Card"
from the Network settings control panel if it is there.
This problem may happen in the following two conditions:
(1). When you installed the Windows 98, the adapter was
already inserted
in the computer. The Windows 98 forced to put the adapter
under the
"Other Devices" because it didn't recognize
the adapter.
(The Windows 98 has no built-in driver for the adapter).
(2) The user does not follow User Guide and the software
for the
adapter is not be INSTALLED COMPLETELY.
When the Windows 98 restarts, the NDC PCMCIA
adapter will be
detected, and then you can install the driver for the
adapter by
refering to the installation procedure in the manual.
